“It’s true that the director’s interpretation is the difference between a good film and a great film. But the difference between a good film and a bad film is the writer.”
— Robert McKee
Robert McKee (Story Guru)
Editorial note: I’m not a big fan of McKee as a teacher. As a young writer, I took his seminar in New York in the 80s. I went in not knowing how to write a screenplay and thanks to his teaching style, I came out, $400 poorer, not knowing how to write a screenplay and feeling bad about myself. That said, he does have some interesting points to make and if you read just the bolded parts of his book Story, it’s worthy.
